Shape carving refers to a three-dimensional appearance where the outline of a design is sandblasted and the interior is shaped. This enhanced carving creates depth and contours within the design and is often used for roses, flowers and leaves. A shape carving may also be used for praying hands and the rosary.
Flat carvings are achieved by sandblasting the outline of a design while the design itself is left flat. The surface of the carving is left flat with a sandblasted finish, which stands out from the surrounding polished granite.
