Monument Finish

Monument Finishes

Along with color and size, monuments and markers can be completed in many finishes. Below you will find a description and photo of the finishes used for granite. Some marker styles, such as flush or bevel, have standard finishes that are commonly used. Different finishes will add depth and texture to carvings, etchings and lettering on the monument.  Finishes, like color and size, can be customized to give you the look you desire.

Polished

Polished finish gives a smooth, glass-like appearance to the monument. This is achieved by grinding the surface of the stone with progressively finer abrasives until the high gloss is reached.

Steeled/Frosted

This finish is smooth, but not polished. To get this look, the stone surface is blasted with Steel Shot until is reaches a flat textured surface. The angel depicted shows a steeled finish.

Sawn/Honed

A sawn, or honed, finish is semi-smooth. The stone is ground with abrasives, or cut with a wire or diamond saw blade, until smooth, but not glossed.

Rock Pitch

Rock pitch is a rough surface. It is the rugged, natural fracture of the stone. It can be seen on the sides of the shown marker.
