Monument Size and Materials

Monument Sizes

As you make your way through the design process, one decision you will make is the size of your monument or marker. Much of this decision will be guided by your specific cemetery's rules and regulations. Each cemetery has specifications to what size stone can be placed on what size grave or lot. We will help you to determine this information for your cemetery. Once you know these rules, you can decide within them what size is best for you. Would you like your monument to be large and stand out, or you may prefer an understated, sleek monument. Whatever your tastes, we will help you design a lasting tribute.

Materials

Monuments and markers can come in various materials. Commonly used materials are marble, granite and bronze.

Marble, because of the way it is formed, is much lighter and softer than granite. Overtime, the elements will wear away engravings and restoration will be necessary.

Granite, like marble, is a natural stone. Granite is available in an array of colors, with naturally occurring patterns and markings. With advanced engraving techniques, the options for design and engraving are nearly limitless. Granite is the most durable material available for markers and monuments, and will withstand wear from time and weather.

Bronze is a man-made metal with many customizable options. Bronze markers are often installed flush to the ground, and mounted on granite or concrete. A bronze marker will change color with age, but this can be restored through proper cleaning.
